Roger and Crystal both graduated from Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, MO with their undergraduate degrees. Roger continued on at the Seminary to finish his Masters of Arts in 1994. In 1994, they moved to northeast Brazil. They currently work in Maceió, Brazil which has around one million inhabitants. They work with the expanding Esperanca Church multiplication ministries.
Roger and Crystal Johansen have five children: Joshua, Jordan, Jonathan, Juliana and James. Joshua feels the Lord calling him into missions and is currently working towards that.
In 1994, the Johansens studies Portuguese in Fortaleza, Ceara. In 1995 they moved to Maceio where they worked with two vetern couples from BGFM. In 1999, with a few national believers, the Johansens started the Clima Bom church plant. The Lord blessed the work. With the growth came the need for a Bible Institute to prepare future leaders. With more leadership development, Roger finished up a Doctorate of Ministry program through Northland International University.
The Lord blessed the work in Maceio. The church plant reproduced starting 6 more works. The Lord blessed and called four Brazilian men to be a part of the growing ministries: Pastor Eriomar, Pastor David; Pastor Aerzio and Pastor Joao de Deus.

Pray for the young ministries to grow. Pray for God to guide the ministry as they desire to reach the world. The churches in Maceio have reached out with mission trips within Brazil and even to Portugal and Italy. May God build His church!
